Frequently Asked Questions
Can a snow blower handle the packed ridge at the end of my driveway?
Usually, but not always. Fresh plow spoil blows fine. Once that ridge has been driven over and refrozen into ice, a blower will ride up on it or stall — that’s a limitation of the machine, not effort. When we hit that, we break it up with a plow blade or by hand and then blow the rest. Worth knowing so you’re not surprised if you see us switch equipment mid-visit.
Does snow blowing get down to bare pavement?
It gets close, but it leaves a thin layer behind — a blower can’t scrape, and running the auger hard against concrete would damage both. That last skim usually melts off or needs salt. If you want bare, dry pavement, blowing needs to be paired with de-icing; blowing alone is not an ice management service. We’ll tell you which surfaces on your property need salt to be genuinely safe.
I have a gravel driveway. Can you still blow it?
Yes, with the skid shoes raised so the auger sits above the stone. Expect some gravel to be thrown regardless, especially early in the season before the base freezes solid, and expect a bit of stone in the lawn edge come spring. If your gravel is loose or the drive was recently topped up, tell us — sometimes waiting for a hard freeze before the first visit is the better call.
Wet, heavy snow — is a blower the right tool?
It’s the tool that struggles most with it. Heavy March slush clogs chutes and cuts throwing distance to a few feet, so the same driveway takes noticeably longer. We still clear it, but on very wet storms a plow or a combination is often faster. If your property is mainly wet-snow prone and has room to stack, we’ll say so upfront rather than sell you a blowing contract that fights the conditions.
