The service
A patio is the foundation of everything you do outside.
A well-built patio complements the house, gives you a solid, safe surface for dining and lounging, and lasts for decades. We build them in natural stone, brick and concrete pavers, with borders, curves and inlay patterns tailored to your home rather than picked off a shelf.
Retaining walls turn a sloped yard into usable terraces and planting beds, hold soil in place and give an entrance real presence. Walkways and driveways tie it all together and make the first impression on everyone who visits. We design and install all of it, in Rochester and across Monroe County.

04
Set, cut and finish
Pavers or stone are set, cut and edged, joints are sanded, and the site is cleaned up.
Built for freeze-thaw
What is under the pavers matters more than the pavers.
Rochester winters push and pull the ground dozens of times a season. Hardscape set on a shallow or poorly compacted base heaves, sinks and opens up at the joints. We build every patio, wall and path on a base sized for this climate, with drainage that moves water away from the house.
- Excavation to the right depth for the use
- Compacted aggregate base in layers
- Grading that sheds water away from the home
- Solid edge restraint on every paver surface
- Drainage stone behind retaining walls
- Materials rated for northern freeze-thaw

FAQ
Questions we hear about this work.
Not answered here? Call (585) 539-9911 or send a note through the estimate form and we will get back to you.
Pavers or stamped concrete for a Rochester patio?
Pavers. A paver surface flexes with freeze-thaw instead of cracking, and a single heaved or stained paver can be lifted and replaced. Stamped concrete cracks as a slab and is hard to repair invisibly.
How long will a paver patio last?
Built on a proper base, decades. Most of the failures we are called to fix are base problems, not paver problems.
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
Often, once a wall passes a certain height. Requirements vary by town in Monroe County, and we tell you at the consultation whether your project needs one and what it involves.
Can you rebuild a patio that has heaved or sunk?
Usually. If the pavers are sound we can lift them, rebuild the base and re-set them. We assess it at the free site visit.
What materials can I choose from?
Concrete pavers in many colors and shapes, clay brick, and natural stone such as bluestone and flagstone, plus wall stone in natural and manufactured options.
When is the best time to build?
We install from spring through fall. Design and estimates happen year-round, and booking early gets you the build slot you want.
